Yiring
The Yiring is an early intervention program offering support to young people at risk or have had involvement with the youth justice system.
What do we do?
The program aims to empower young people and their families to foster behavioral change, enhance safety, boost school and employment engagement, strengthen cultural connections, and improve social and emotional well-being.
About our program
Caseworkers offer case management and home visits for up to 12 months based on the needs of the young person and their family.
Support may include parenting and family assistance, practical help, evidence-based and group programs, service coordination, cultural activities, mentoring, recreational activities, and community resources.
Eligibility
- Ages 10-17
- Involved with or at risk of the Justice System (formal police contact is not required)
- Exhibiting significant concerns in the community or school, such as disengagement, anti-social behavior, aggression, or exposure to domestic violence
- Needs may include housing, financial assistance, mental health support, AOD support, and help with school or training engagement
- Resides or attends school in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, or Port Stephens

Referral
Referrals can come from community services like education, health, and police, or through self-referrals. If you identify a young person who meets the eligibility criteria, discuss the referral with them and their family to obtain consent. Once assessed as eligible by the screening intake officer, the referral will be sent to the Yiring Manager at Wandiyali to assign a caseworker.
