About the Organisation

Wandiyali  is a community organisation that delivers services such as Out of Home Care case management, Brighter Futures (Early Intervention), Child Care (Long Day Care), MST-CAN (Intensive therapeutic intervention program), Indigenous Community Links, OOHC Mentoring, Housing and much more!

Summary of the Broad Purpose of the Position

Wandiyali AOD Service is aimed at early intervention and prevention to reduce the number of Aboriginal Individuals and Families that have been impacted on by drug and alcohol misuse within the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens Communities.

Community Support Service is funded by Prime minster and cabinet to support the Indigenous community

Assistance is offered in regards to welfare issues such as food, housing, relationships, education, training, case management and drug and alcohol misuse. 

Key Role Responsibilities

Work with clients with complex needs
Good organisational and time management skills
Good communication skills
Highly developed liaison skills with the ability to build good working relationships with Aboriginal and mainstream services facilitating culturally sensitive treatment for our clients
Well developed understanding of issues facing Aboriginal people.
Provide services in accordance with funding agency standards and agreements
Maintain a safe, supportive  environment
Support clients in a  culturally appropriate manner

Essential requirements

Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and ability to prove
Current Senior First Aid Certificate
Current Driver's Licence
Successful Working With Children Check
Successful Police Check
Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
Demonstrated computer literacy
Strong negotiation, mediation and dispute resolution skills

Desired requirements

Experience working with Drug and Alcohol issues

It is an offence under the NSW Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998 for a person convicted of a serious sex offence to apply for this position.  Successful applicant(s) will be subject to Working With Children Check and Police Check prior to Employment.
