Out of Home Care Case Worker

ABOUT THE ROLE

*Please note this is a 5-11 month maternity position that may lead to a full time position*

Wandiyali Children's Services Permanency Support Program (OOHC) works with children, carers and families within the Out of Home Care system.

The role of Case Worker is to assist in identifying, establishing and supporting placements for Aboriginal children and young people with carers in the Hunter and Upper Hunter regions. They will provide casework to children in foster care in line with Wandiyali  policies and procedures and statutory and legislative requirements.

KEY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES 

Work with Case Work Manager, Out of Home Care Manager and other professionals to place children and young people in appropriate care placements including foster care, kinship care and where possible restoration to family
Coordinate and contribute to the development of case plans and reviews of case plans
Monitor and assess the needs of children and young people in placements through effective case work
Maintain records of children and young people in care placements
Provide a range of practical supports to assist in the maintenance of placements
Liaise with a range of service providers to support needs of children and young people in care
Facilitation of access visits between children and young people and natural family members
Facilitate culturally appropriate support and connections within the community

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential Requirements

Must identify as being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent; or, have proven knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the community
Relevant experience working with children and young people in the statutory care system
Experience in case work with families, children and young people
Knowledge of legislative requirements for Out of Home Care
Demonstrated understanding of the developmental needs of children and young people
Ability to manage own time and work resources and work effectively in a small team
Experience working with families in adversity
Exceptional interpersonal communication
A high level of skill in report writing
Intermediate level of computer skills
Demonstrated ability to liaise with relevant government and non-government professionals, community groups, services and agencies
Current NSW driver’s licence

Desirable Requirements

Relevant social sciences or community work related qualification at Certificate IV level or higher and/or relevant experience in a related area
Familiarity with NSW Standards for Statutory Out of Home Care and accreditation requirements
